Members of the New Canaan Police Department Patrol Division and the Connecticut State Police Traffic Unit’s Truck Squad conducted the special detail from 7 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Police set up a checkpoint at the intersection of New Norwalk Road and Hoyt Farm Road, stopping a total of 41 vehicles. As a result of those stops, six inspections were conducted of questionable vehicles. Those inspections forced police to take six trucks and their drivers out of service due to failed inspections or other violations, including one that was overweight.
In total, 21 infractions were issued during hte detail, citing 23 different violations, for a total of $2,881 in fines, police said. A total of seven vehicles were towed for a variety of reasons.
